Exits 110, 111 and 114 on the Highland Rim
Heavy Duty Towing Manchester covers the Coffee County seat and the long stretch of I-24 around it. Manchester had 12,212 residents at the 2020 census and sits at 1,060 feet. I-24 runs along the northeast side of the city, with access at exits 110, 111 and 114. If a truck, bus or RV stops there, call (615) 880-9643.
The exits
Exit 110 is SR 53 toward Manchester and Woodbury. Exit 111 is SR 55 toward Manchester, Tullahoma and McMinnville. Exit 114 is US 41 into Manchester. US 41 runs through the center of town as Hillsboro Boulevard, and SR 55 runs along the east side as McArthur Street. From exit 111 it is about 65 miles northwest to Nashville and 68 miles southeast to Chattanooga. That puts exit 111 roughly midway on the Nashville to Chattanooga run.
Bonnaroo weekend
Manchester has hosted the Bonnaroo Music Festival every year since 2002 on the 650-acre Great Stage Park. Wikipedia says the area population grows to nearly 100,000 for the four-day event. A temporary exit 112 once led directly onto the site. Festival week is when we expect more motorhomes, buses, box trucks and trailer rigs loaded with stage equipment,. Getting a wrecker through event traffic takes time, so call early and say it is festival traffic.
The climb
Wikipedia's route description for I-24 says that between Murfreesboro and Manchester the highway climbs gradually out of the Nashville Basin onto the Highland Rim and first passes 1,000 feet in Tennessee. The mountain grade is farther east. The Monteagle grade, past exit 127, has a 5 percent western ascent over about 4.5 miles. The article lists 6 percent downgrades up to 6.9 percent at the maximum, two runaway truck ramps and a 45 mph truck limit on both downgrades.
Surface routes
US 41 southeast of town goes about 8 miles to Hillsboro, and northwest about 5 miles to I-24 exit 105. SR 55 runs about 25 miles northeast to McMinnville and 12 miles southwest to Tullahoma. The Little Duck River passes through the city and joins the Duck River west of the city limits. Old Stone Fort State Archaeological Park lies next to the western city limits.
